BYOT: Bring Your Own Technology

After working diligently on PowerPoint presentations for three days in the computer lab last week, the students have now started presenting their Expert Topics to the class. Since the presenter is the "teacher" the rest of the students are required to take notes during the presentation. A notetaking option each student has is to use technology to organize and diplay their information. Below, Shady and Brittany C. (both from 6A) are demonstrating how they use technology to take notes. Doesn't it look fun? :)

Another use of technology that all of the 6th grade students have experienced this year and are very comfortable using are the Neo2 Laptops. These devices are great for writing prompts, taking notes, quizzes, and more! Below, Kendall and Jake use their skills to complete a writing prompt for Health class.



Class Easter Party

April 21, 2011

A fun end to our day today was the 6th grade Easter Party, which consisted of decorating sugar cookies with frosting and sprinkles. I was able to sneak a few photos of some of the students as they were letting their creative juices flow.  Have a wonderful Easter Break everyone! Remember, He is Risen, He is Risen indeed!

Earth Day Celebration

Earth Day: April 22nd

This year we recongnized Earth Day a day early, since school is not in session on April 22nd due to Good Friday. We understand that, as Christians, we are called by God to be good stewards of His amazing creation.

            Earthkeeping: Our Responsibility

CARE-TAKERS: We are care-takers. "The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till and keep it," Genesis 2:15. The Hebrew words shamar and abad, usually translated as "till and keep" in this verse, could be just as accurately translated as "serve and preserve."

STEWARDS: We are stewards of God's earth, ruling over that which is not ours. "You [God] made humans ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under our feet: All flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas," Ps 8:6-8.

    We must remember,  “THE EARTH IS THE LORD'S AND EVERYTHING IN IT…” Psalm 24:1

                                 Humanity must keep the creation just as God keeps us.

6th Grade Jello Cell Project

Way back at the beginning of the school year (September 27th to be exact) we studied Cell Structure and Function. A fun way that the students reinforced what they learned was by creating Jello Cells. In this group project the students either focused on an animal cell or a plant cell. The animal cells were made with red gelatin and put in a round container. The plant cells were made with green gelatin and put in a rectangular container. The students had fun picking out different items to represent each organelle in their cell. Lab Safety Rap

"Wait, you gotta make sure that your lab is safe..."

 

Description

“Lab Safety!” teaches laboratory safety rules and regulations, and how to avoid lab dangers. The song is useful for lessons in lab safety procedures, including safety training, lab supplies, chemicals, Bunsen burners, goggles, and proper shoes.  Students will become aware of dangers in the lab how to work safely in laboratory environments.

6th Grade Worm Dissection

Our most recent activity/lab in Science was the Worm Dissection. Before the students cut into their gooey, squishy, wormy friends they learned many worm facts, worm anatomy, and of course lab safety. They also completed some other activities such as writing a letter to a worm and writing journal entires as if they were a worm. Overall we had a great time with this project. Check out the pictures!
